HALVETIC- herbicide that cuts glyphosate use in half
03 07 2023
Ciech Sarzyna has developed a new herbicide - Halvetic. The formulation is based on the innovative and patented BGT ("Better Glyphosate Technology") technology. This allows the dose of glyphosate to be reduced by half while maintaining effective weed control.
One of the steps in preparing a field for an upcoming crop is weed eradication. Particular attention should be paid to perennial weeds, which negatively affect crops from an early stage by competing for water, food and light. As a result, they restrict the growth and development of our crops.
Since May, a new proposal from CIECH Sarzyna has appeared on the Polish market of plant protection products - Halvetic herbicide based on glyphosate.
Halvetic is an innovative herbicide which works on the basis of BGT ('Better Glyphosate Technology') technology.
BGT - the first such innovation in decades in glyphosate production
BGT ('Better Glyphosate Technology') is a patented method that reduces the use of glyphosate doses per hectare while maintaining the existing efficacy of the active ingredient glyphosate. The company emphasises that BGT Technology is its response to the challenges of sustainable agriculture. This makes Halvetic a quick and simple to use, yet effective weed control product.
- We are the first company in the world to apply BGT technology on an industrial scale and bring it to market. At the same time, it is the first such significant innovation in the area of glyphosate formulation in 45 years. The result of many years of work and research is our new product Halvetic, which is not only part of our ambitious development of our product portfolio, but also combines care for the environment with the needs of modern and sustainable agriculture, says Wojciech Babski, President of the Management Board of CIECH Sarzyna and head of the AGRO business in the CIECH Group.
Halvetic effectively combats many weed species
Halvetic has a non-selective action, acting on both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous weeds. It is sold as a concentrate. The product provides fast and good efficacy, even under plant stress conditions, while being environmentally friendly.
The product is reliable in weed control:
post-harvest after a variety of crops and in stubble fields, for pre-emergence weed control in maize, in orchards, in areas not used for agriculture.
Halvetic - full glyphosate functionality in one product
The herbicide is a unique combination of excipients (adjuvants) and other additives. Preparation of the working fluid should not be a problem. By increasing the retention on the surface of the weeds to be controlled, good conditions are created for the penetration of the active substance and its movement to the site of action. The product is also effective under unfavourable environmental conditions. BGT technology allows for a reduced dose of glyphosate per hectare.
This full-strength herbicide consists of 180 g of glyphosate in the form of isopropylamine salt and incorporated wetting agents and ammonium sulphate, which makes application easier. The latter used to be added separately by users. Depending on the species of weed to be controlled and the degree of weed infestation, the recommended dose is 1.5 -6 l/ha.
Taken up by the green parts of the plant, Halvetic travels throughout the plant until it reaches the underground parts of the plant, thus inhibiting the growth and development of the weed so that it dies off. According to the manufacturer, the first symptoms of action, e.g. yellowing and wilting, are noticeable 7-10 days after treatment. Eventually, the plant dies after about 2-4 weeks.
Why is glyphosate so important in weed control?
Glyphosate-based products are very well researched (more than 800 trials have been conducted to date) and used in more than 160 countries. It is the most widely used active substance in the world in the context of plant protection.
